Reflections from the River Lea at Cheshunt (incl. pinholes)

As this was the second time making the pinhole photographs, I was more used to the fiddly process of changing the paper each time, so I was a bit quicker this time around. I didn't have such a long exposure time either, since the last photos were overexposed. Because the camera does not have a bulb mode I managed the exposure time through the number of times I release the shutter. The previous images were between 50 and 100 and were too dark (as a negative image) so for this set I released the shutter between 25 and 40 times. I also tried a couple of double exposures, so I'll see if they worked when I develop tonight.

I found that in this location, being a more rural setting there was a much wider variety of plants and foliage around the river. I selected some different leaves and flowers/weeds and placed them beneath the paper in a frame. They seemed to go a deep purple colour much faster than the first time I tried making them. As I was making these I trod on some paper on a wooden plank that was a platform to stand on right my the edge of the water. I thought of Klea McKenna's work where she rubs photographic paper into grooves within the ground as I was doing this, and wanted to see how it would affect the print. As well as this I made the 'river prints' which really are just chemigrams using only light and the water from the river. I really like the direct link between the prints and the water and what this means for them as physical objects that have been in the water and are not in my sketchbook.
